Blogging for Enhanced Teaching and Learning

I found an article that spoke about the benefits to blogging in the classroom. It stated that blogs can be an extension of a classroom, where discussions are continued and where every student gets and equal voice. Or it can be a place where new ideas are formulated through collaboration. Using blogs to facilitate group work is clearly appropriate and an excellent medium for student-centered learning. In addition to the usual benefits of group work, students using blogs seem to be more attuned to their assignment and to their group members.

This is the link to the article:

Swimming

My current topic of study is swimming. I would use my blog page as a resource tool for my students. I would post literary sources that I feel would be useful and of interest to them. I would post books, newspaper, and magazine articles I feel would be beneficial about swimming. I have also supplied connection to other blog pages that have current news in the world of swimming, as well as a blog that offers workout suggestions for the more competitive swimmer. For my theme unit I will put a daily write up of what I plan to cover in class, such as a particular stroke, nutrition, or dryland exercises. I will also post what assignments will be taking place during each unit as well.

Purpose of PE Blog

The purpose of a physical education blog is a way to communicate between parents, students, administration, etc. With a blog page, I am able to keep everyone abreast of what I am currently doing in my classroom, as well as a foreshadow of what I have coming up in future units. A blog is another technology tool for my students to utilize in regards to finding out about assignments, classroom rules and expectations, etc.
